Another popular category of lawn ornaments is anything that moves as the wind blows. Miniature windmills that sit on the ground can also double as a bird house or a planter. Wind chimes hooked onto a tree branch will provide delicate sounds that many people find soothing. In recent years, flags have become quite popular with a seemingly endless array of flag choices. One can be patriotic year round or have a different flag for every holiday.
These coverings can also be used to match other features in the yard such as the swimming pool. Now, this may seem like an odd idea, but with a little paint almost anything is possible, color wise. If you would like to incorporate a light blue color into your decking area all you have to do is have the post coverings painted by the company you purchase them from. Rain chains, called "kusari doi" in their native Japan, make beautiful and practical backyard decor. Although rain chains have been used for centuries in Japan to gather water, these days in the west they're used primarily for draining water from the roof. However they're used, rain cascading down these chains makes stormy weather look and sound a little more cheerful. Usually made from copper or stainless steel, the chains may be simple interlinked loops or more fanciful rows of tulip or lily cups. To use a rain chain, just remove your downspout and put the rain chain in its place. To complete the look, place a matching copper rain basin under the chain.
You can be creative in your backyard decorative ideas. Birdhouses are nice and so are garden gnomes, flower gardens and backyard swings. But if you really want to mix it up a bit, here are some ideas you may enjoy:
